Tegucigalpa, the capital, lies inland among the mountains of southern Honduras and keeps the same hour as the rest of the country. The zone identifier is America/Tegucigalpa, set to UTC−6. San Pedro Sula in the north, La Ceiba on the Caribbean coast and the Bay Islands offshore all read the same time.

Coast, mountains and islands on one offset

Honduras spans two coastlines — a long Caribbean shore in the north and a short Pacific frontage on the Gulf of Fonseca — with highlands in between. One time zone covers all of it. The Bay Islands, Roatán among them, are on the same clock as the mainland, so a flight or ferry out to them changes nothing on your watch.

A single national zone at UTC−6, coast to coast. The Bay Islands keep mainland time. Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua share the same offset, so overland travel in the region rarely needs a clock adjustment. The offset may also appear written as GMT−6 in older timetables.

Daylight saving: not in force

Honduras does not currently observe daylight saving time. The clocks stay at UTC−6 all year. This makes the country straightforward to schedule with: an offset established once holds indefinitely, and a repeating calendar entry does not drift.

A country that leaves its clocks alone gives you one fewer thing to get wrong — the only twice-yearly surprise will come from your own side of the call.

The other side of the arithmetic

Although Honduras itself does not change, the difference between Honduras and many of its trading partners does. North American cities that observe daylight saving move an hour away from Tegucigalpa in spring and back again in autumn. So do most of Europe, on different dates. If you work regularly across those boundaries, the safe habit is to check the current difference each season rather than to memorise a number, because the number that was right in January will be wrong in July.
