How to use World Clock

Add cities: type a name and pick it from the list. Your own location sits at the top for reference. Read across. Every entry shows its local time, its date — because "tomorrow" starts at different moments — and its offset from you.

Reorder or remove cities as your projects and people move around the globe. The list survives in your browser, so the next visit opens with your cities already in place.

Why a world clock beats mental arithmetic

Time zone math fails at the edges: half-hour offsets in India, daylight saving that starts on different weekends in Europe and America, and the date line, which quietly makes it Thursday in Auckland while it is Wednesday in Los Angeles. A live table sidesteps every trap at once — the clock is the calculation.

It also answers the softer question behind the hard one: not "what time is it there" but "is it a decent hour to call". Seeing 03:47 next to a colleague's city ends that debate faster than any policy.

Every distributed team eventually learns the same lesson: "noon" is not a time, it is an argument.

From the largest cities in the world to your own list

Default lists usually open with the giants — Tokyo, Delhi, Shanghai, São Paulo, New York — because that is where the people are. Yours does not have to. Three cities you actually call beat thirty you scroll past:

Family: one entry per household, so birthday calls land in the evening, theirs. Work: the offices you meet with, plus UTC if your servers and logs live there. Travel: your destination, added a week early, helps the shift start in your head before it starts in your body.

Alongside the table sit the neighbouring tools — a digital clock for your own zone full-screen, a timer clock for countdowns, an alarm for the mornings. Different jobs, one address.

Working across zones without misery

Find the overlap once and write it down. For any two locations there is a band of hours that is civilised at both ends, and it is usually narrower than you hope — sometimes two hours, sometimes none at all. Knowing that band saves you from re-deriving it before every meeting.

When the overlap is genuinely empty, someone is taking an inconvenient hour, and the fair arrangement is to alternate who. Teams that never discuss this always end up with the same person on the late call forever, and that person notices.
