How to use Time by Country

Find the country alphabetically or through search — typing three letters is usually enough. Read its live local time and date. Countries with several zones list them separately, from New York to Hawaii.

Open a country's page for details: offset from UTC, daylight-saving rules, and major cities.

Time in India and other single-zone giants

India runs on one clock from Mumbai to Kolkata: India Standard Time, UTC+5:30, with no daylight saving. So India time now is the same across the entire country — the half-hour offset surprises people, but it never shifts with the seasons. Japan is similarly simple at UTC+9; China, despite its width, also keeps a single national time.

The countries that need a whole table of their own are the wide federations — the United States, Canada, Russia, Australia — where the answer starts with "which part?". Somewhere on Earth it is always a reasonable hour. The trick is that it's rarely where you need to call.

What time is it in California right now?

California keeps Pacific Time: UTC−8 in winter and UTC−7 while daylight saving runs. So the current time in California trails London by eight hours most of the year, and trails New York by three always. The live entry on this page saves you the seasonal bookkeeping — it already knows which rule applies today.

A few reference points that come up constantly: Arizona shares the Mountain zone but skips daylight saving, so it matches California's clock in summer and differs in winter. The United Kingdom sits on UTC in winter and UTC+1 in summer — London is not always "UTC" even though Greenwich is there. Tokyo never changes: UTC+9, all year.

Country view or city view

Use the country view when you are scanning: comparing several places, checking whether a region observes daylight saving, or planning something that touches a lot of markets at once. It gives you the policy picture.

Use a city when you are booking an actual meeting with an actual person. Cities are unambiguous and countries are not. The safest phrasing for any invitation names both — the city and the clock time — because that pair survives being forwarded to someone in a third place, which is what always happens.

Questions and answers

What time is it in the country of India?
One national time, IST, UTC+5:30, no seasonal changes. Check the live India entry above for the exact current reading.
What countries are in the UTC time zone?
Iceland, Ghana and Senegal stay on UTC all year, among others along that meridian band. The UK, Ireland and Portugal join them only in winter, moving to UTC+1 for summer.
Why do some countries show more than one clock?
Because they span several zones. The United States mainland alone has four; the listing shows each zone with its own live time rather than pretending there is one answer.
