How to use Time zone converter

Choose the source city and time, then add the cities you care about. The date matters as much as the hour: the United States moves its clocks on different weeks than Europe, so the gap between Chicago and Berlin is not the same number all year. When a call lands inside one of those switch weeks, check it against the actual date, never against what the gap "usually" is — and write the result into the invite in the recipient's local time, so the answer survives the copy-paste.

The USA alone spans six zones, east to west: Eastern — New York and North Carolina; Central — Chicago and most of Texas; Mountain — Denver; Arizona sits here but skips daylight saving; Pacific — California, from Los Angeles northward; Alaska, and then Hawaii–Aleutian at the far end.

What time zone is Hawaii in?

Hawaii runs on Hawaii–Aleutian Standard Time, UTC−10, and does not observe daylight saving at all. That second part is what trips people: the gap between Honolulu and the mainland changes with the season even though Hawaii's own clocks never move — two hours behind California in winter, three in summer. Japan is the same kind of steady: the whole country keeps Japan Standard Time, UTC+9, with no seasonal shift, which leaves Hawaii and Japan a fixed nineteen hours apart all year round. The Philippines sits at UTC+8; Australia, by contrast, spans several zones and shifts its clocks in the opposite season to the north.

Cities beat abbreviations

Convert by city or region rather than by zone abbreviation. Abbreviations are short, familiar and ambiguous — several are used by more than one part of the world, and some describe a summer offset that only applies for part of the year. A city name carries its whole rulebook with it, including whether and when the clocks move. When in doubt, name the place, not the acronym.
