Working Days

Working days between two dates, with weekends and public holidays taken out.

This calculator counts working days — weekdays minus weekends, and minus public holidays if you tick them — between any two dates. It answers questions like how many working days in March 2026 there are (22 weekdays) or how many remain before a deadline.

How it counts

Working days are calendar days minus Saturdays, Sundays and the public holidays of the country you choose. Holidays come from the same official calendar that the holidays pages use, so both pages always agree.

How to use Working days

Set a start date and an end date; the tool returns the number of working days between them alongside the plain calendar count, so you see both answers at once. Decide two things before you trust any result: whether the end date itself counts (an invoice “due in 10 working days” usually excludes the day it was sent), and whose holidays apply — a business day in one country is a day off in another. The weekend filter can also be switched off entirely, at which point this becomes an ordinary days-between-dates counter for ages, anniversaries and countdowns.

Working days in March 2026 and any other month

March 2026 has 31 calendar days; four Saturdays and five Sundays fall inside it, leaving 22 weekdays. Whether all 22 are true business days depends on your country’s public holidays — the calculator subtracts them when you select a holiday calendar. The same one-glance answer works for any month: pick its first and last day and read the number. Month lengths and weekday alignment shift constantly, which is why April, June or August of the same year each give a different count, and why last year’s number for a month is never safe to reuse. A deadline in calendar days is optimism. A deadline in working days is a plan.

Days until Christmas, with or without weekends

The single most-asked countdown question — how many days until Christmas — has two honest answers, and this tool gives both. The calendar answer counts every day to December 25 and drops by one each midnight; kids counting sleeps want this number. The working-days answer strips out weekends and holidays and is usually the one that stings: it is how much shipping time, office time or shopping-on-a-lunch-break time actually remains. The same split applies to any target — Halloween, Easter, New Year’s Eve, the last day of school — so pick the date and then pick which kind of “days left” your question really means.

Where people use this

Payroll periods, contract notice, delivery estimates, court and administrative deadlines that are written in business days on purpose, and sprint planning where "how many days do we actually have" decides what fits. It also settles the recurring office question of whether a deadline stated in working days lands before or after a long weekend.

If you are planning across a public holiday season, count the working days first, then remove the holidays by hand. Doing it in that order is easier than trying to hold both exclusions in your head at once.

Questions and answers

How many working days are in March 2026?
22 weekdays. March 2026 runs 31 days and contains nine weekend days — four Saturdays and five Sundays. Subtract any public holidays your country observes that month for your local business-day count.
How many days are left until Christmas?
It changes daily, so use the live counter: set the end date to December 25 and today as the start. You’ll get the calendar number and the working-day number side by side.
Do Christmas Eve and other half-days count as working days?
The calculator treats a day as either working or not — it cannot know your office closes early. For half-days, count them and adjust mentally, or exclude them as holidays if your plans depend on the afternoon.
